Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada – August 14-15

Big City time…   Neither Sylvia nor I are fond of most large cities in the US, but maybe Vancouver is different.

We heard that Stanley Park is a nice place to visit while in Vancouver, so that is where we headed.

Stanley Park is a fairly large area on the north west side of Vancouver, sort of like their version of Central Park, but with lots of water since Stanley Park is a peninsula surrounded on three sides by salt water.

In order to get to Stanley Park you must go through Vancouver, and you pass close by the area where the Olympic Torch is located.

After driving into Stanley Park, looking back toward Vancouver over the water, the skyline is impressive.
You can see the Olympic flame in the lower right corner of the picture.

Here is an enlargement of the lower right corner in case you can't see it above.

There are constant flights of sea-planes landing at the downtown area where the cruise ships dock, I assume the planes are taking tourists on sightseeing flights.

There is a lot of Indian influence in the area, and Stanley Park has a large display of totem poles.

Did you notice the bird on the top of the totem pole behind Sylvia??

There are many ways to enjoy your day in Stanley Park.
A fast game of Cricket.

Or take a ride in a horse drawn carriage.

Take a seaplane sightseeing tour over the Park.

Some just enjoy their solitude with a fishing pole.

And some enjoy mimicking others.

Here are pictures of the travelers.

Rapallo is getting free advertising all the way to the western Canadian coast.

On the way out of the park Sylvia found a hotel that she appreciated.
The hotel also had a bar.

We found a sculpture in a square downtown that was rather interesting.

Wood art time again – I see Mr Wart-hog with Son of Wart-hog just behind the father.
Possibly my imagination runs away with me on this one…

And a Smush-nosed Bunny Rabbit.

It turns out that Vancouver is a rather cosmopolitan city, but still a large city with large city problem areas.
