Canada - First stop, Radium Hot Springs

8/5 – First stop in Canada – Radium Hot Springs, British Columbia, Canada

We stopped at Radium Hot Springs for an overnight stop because it was too far to drive from Kalispell, Montana to Lake Louise or Banff, since we are trying to keep the driving times between stops to less than 5 hours.

The scenery around Radium Hot Springs was dramatic as is much of the Canadian scenery in the mountainous areas.
There are rivers everywhere in Canada, and there is usually a set of train tracks running beside every large river.
This is a large outcrop of very red stone, right beside the Hot Spring area.

Here is a shot of the RV in our Parking spot, with beautiful mountains in the background..
There is not much to say about our overnight stop in Radium Hot Springs, except that the ‘Radium Valley Vacation Resort’ we stayed at was really nice. It had many of the amenities of a Resort, plus an RV Park. It is a ‘member park’, so most of the people staying here were here for 2 weeks or more, taking their summer vacations at the RV Park.

Notice the structure beside the RV. One of these has been built at each full service RV site, and includes a gas barbecue (propane included free), cable connection and electricity for your LCD TV or microwave, etc., an 8 foot long lockable cabinet with countertop, and a picnic bench that seats 8 people. The structures are pretty large, with a deck size of about 12 x 25 feet, the covered area being about 12x12.   Our site even had a tree coming out of the deck.

This park has all the amenities of a normal Vacation Resort. There is a large indoor swimming pool and whirlpool, a nice exercise room, an adult recreation room, card room, reading room with lots of books and a fireplace, a family recreation room with a pool table and air hockey table, shuffleboard table, ping pong table area, and an adult sitting area with fireplace. Outdoor recreation areas include some tennis courts, badminton court, an outdoor heated pool, buildings for holding family get-togethers or meetings, outdoor fire-pits, etc..
I might sound like a commercial for the park, and we both would have liked to spend more time here to use some of the amenities, and go into town for a dip in the Hot Springs, but we are only able to stay here for one night.
After Credit Card conversion charges for Canadian dollar, the one night ended up costing us $69.72, so it certainly not an inexpensive RV Park for Americans. Before leaving, we took lots of pictures of this resort’s amenities, but you have likely seen high end resort amenities so I’m not putting the pictures on the blog.

There is a very heavy French influence here in Canada, as most people speak French in this area, and all signs are in both English and French.

The ‘Ladies Room’ sign icons have also taken on a French flair. The female 'Water Closet' icon is much more shapley than the typical American female rest room icon, both posted below.
GOTTA GO..!!  for this update. Not much else to say about Radium Hot Springs. On to Lake Louise.
