Alabama The Beautiful

The sign welcoming us to Alabama said 'Alabama The Beautiful', and the rolling hills proved that to be true. Sort of looks like Florida with humps and bumps, but with pine trees instead of palm trees.

We went through the Tuscaloosa area and saw several homes and buildings that had lost their roofs and other damages, plus lots and lots of trees blown down. The damage was very spotty with several buildings damaged then no damage for blocks, then another house or two with damage. Looks like the tornados just jumped around, picking out the unlucky victims. There was not widespread destruction like in Joplin, MO.

We are in the far northwest corner of Alabama, in Red Bay, where our coach was born.  Our coach 'Phae' (short for Tiffin Phaeton, the model coach we have- how imaginitive are we...) needs some scheduled and a little unscheduled maintenance, plus we wanted to tour the factory to see how they make them.

We are planning to be here for a few days, and judging by the folks in line ahead of us, it looks like a good plan. Check out the pictures...

There are about 70-80 coaches here. There are 5-6 more rows like this (Don't know what that says about the brand, but considering that there have been thousands made, I guess it isn't too bad)

The good news is that there are 49 repair bays here.....

We are told that we can't miss the sightseeing wonder of the Red Bay area - it is a 'Coon Dog' Cemetery, so we are really looking forward to that. If there's anything exciting there I'll include pictures in the next blog.
