Yellowstone South Loop - Old Faithful Geyser

YellowstoneSouth Loop – July 21 – Old Faithful Geyser

On the way to the Old Faithful Geyser, tooling along with the top down, I looked in the mirror of the S2000, and saw the following image.

What was that???   Based on what I saw, I thought they were called SV7's, Lotus derived.  I have been informed that these are Caterham 'Sevens', English made in Caterham Surrey. (Thank you Philip and Patty Waters, experts on all things British.)  The 'Sevens' can be purchased as a kit, and based on the looks of these, I think they are in fact kit cars. You seldom see one of these cars, let alone 3 of them all driving down the road together.
It turns out they are from several locations in California, and came to Yellowstone to do some touring of their own.   COOL !!!!

On to Old Faithful. We were told that Old Faithful was currently doing its thing about every hour and 20 mins,  + or- 10 mins.

When it comes time to see Old Faithful, EVERYONE comes to watch.
See the red arrow in the above picture, in the lower center beside a little dark spot, sort of between the heads of the two females in the image??

Below is a blow up of that area.
Even the Chipmunks come to watch.....

We got there about 20 minutes early to get a decent viewpoint, and sure enough, it started sputtering and spurting about when predicted,,,

then it went into full geyser mode…

And just kept going for what seemed 10 or more minutes (Sorry about so many pictures, but this is what you go to Yellowstone for, and besides I’m only showing you a small percentage of the pictures we took.)

Just when Old Faithful seemed to run out of steam (pun-pun) a second geyser started geyser’ing. We were told that this second geyser only goes off about once a day or so. We were very pleased that we got to see them both going off at the same time.

In this picture I zoomed in on the second geyser, with mist still falling from Old Faithful.
(sorry I don’t have the name of the second geyser).

Holy Steamer Batman… Now there is a third geyser going off behind the second one.

Here is a picture of all three going off together. I think this may be a rather rare picture, but then I don’t spend much time at Yellowstone Park….

On the way to the next location I found some more wood art. This one requires a little imagination, but I saw a Long-nosed Unicorn here......    Sorry, but they can't all be as good as the Buffalo with Eyelashes.

We next went to the Biscuit Basin and found several more beautiful springs and pools.
First is Sapphire Pool. This one is quite deep, giving it the Sapphire color.

And thanks to Sylvia's photographic prowess, here is the photographer taking the image at Sapphire Pool.

Next is the Mustard Spring. This is a hole in the ground with a warm brown color inside. The water level keeps rising and falling. It bubbles and spurts and the water level rises, then it spurts and the water level drops again so there is no water visible. It repeated this about every 5 minutes. while we were there.

More Paint pot colors

Whoops. I ran out of space in this section. Guess I used too many pictures.  - More in Part 2
