Rocky Mountain National Park

July 1, 2011 – Rocky Mountain National Park

It is July 1, and there is still lots of snow in the Rockies. We are hearing that some of the Ski Resorts are still open for skiing.  It probably will not last more than a few more days though because the temperatures are getting warmer. It is in the 60s here today.  It is fun for those that love skiing to be able to ski on July 4th weekend.  Most of the creeks are seriously overflowing their banks with all the snow-melt.

Here is Sylvia, straddling the Continental Divide. I don’t know what that wet spot is between her feet, but theoretically if it was a larger puddle, half would flow east and half would flow west, according to the sign….

Both of us dressed warmly. It was a little cool to be driving around with the top down, but we couldn’t resist, so we just dressed for the occasion.  No shorts today....

We made the trip all the way across the Park and had lunch beside the rushing waters flowing into Grand Lake on the west side of the park,

We got to see some Elk out enjoying the sunshine too.

We need a rest, so we will hang around Estes Park, just outside the gate to the R.M.N.P. for a few days where we have a campsite with a great view of the mountains. The weather is great. Couldn't ask for more, however Sylvia would really like a tennis court.....  Might be tough to arrange out here..
